Pop sensation Lady Gaga is set to appear in the upcoming film Joker: Folie à Deux, as the infamous comic book villain, Harley Quinn. New photos of Gaga in full costume have emerged, showing the singer looking fierce and ready to take on the role.
The sequel to the 2019 movie Joker will see Joaquin Phoenix return as the titular character, along with Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Zazie Beetz. The Hollywood Reporter has suggested that the film may incorporate musical elements, with Gaga playing a co-lead role.
In the photos, taken in downtown Manhattan on March 25, Gaga can be seen in minimal clown makeup, with a red tuxedo jacket and a diamond-patterned corset. She wears sheer and black stockings and a black mini skirt, and her yellow-blonde hair is slicked back in a wet style, with a few inches of dark roots.
Gaga’s character, Harley Quinn, is the girlfriend of Batman’s nemesis, The Joker. In the comics, the pair meet at the Arkham Asylum mental institution, where she works as his psychiatrist. She eventually falls in love with him and they embark on a tumultuous relationship and a life of crime.
The first Joker film did not touch much on Gotham City’s superhero, instead focusing on how the Joker came to be. There are no plot details yet for the follow-up, but the title referenced a condition where two people experience the same or similar mental disorder, often from the same family.
Margot Robbie has previously played Harley Quinn in other DC films, but the new Joker film is considered to be set in a different universe than the one Robbie’s character exists in.
Joker: Folie à Deux is set to be released on October 4, 2024, and fans are eagerly anticipating the chance to see Gaga in action as Harley Quinn.
